Queens of the Stone Age is an American rock band formed in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. The band's line-up includes founder Josh Homme (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, keyboard, percussion, backing vocals), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, percussion, backing vocals) and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion).
Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) has a style of heavy rock music that is heavy on riffs. Throughout its over two-decade history, QOTSA has been described as stoner rock, alternative rock, alternative metal and hard rock. Josh Homme's unique guitar playing has greatly impacted the band's sound. Homme has cited Jimi Hendrix, polka guitar styles and electronic music as influences on his musical sensibilities and guitar playing.
