Ramon S. Ang

Ramon S. Ang is the Vice Chairman since January 28, 1999, President and Chief Operating Officer since March 6, 2002, of San Miguel Corporation.

He also holds, among others, the following positions: President and Chief Executive Officer of Top Frontier Investment Holdings Inc.; Chairman of San Miguel Brewery Inc. and San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong Limited, Petron Corporation, Sea Refinery Corporation, SMC Global Power Holdings Corp., San Miguel Foods, Inc., San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation, San Miguel Properties, Inc., and Anchor Insurance Brokerage Corporation; Vice Chairman of Ginebra San Miguel, Inc. and San Miguel Pure Foods Company, Inc.; Chairman of Liberty Telecoms Holdings Inc., Philippine Diamond Hotel & Resort, Inc., Philippine Oriental Realty Development, Inc., and Atea Tierra Corporation.

Mr. Ang has held directorships in various domestic and international subsidiaries of SMC. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Far Eastern University.

One of the country’s most enigmatic corporate leaders today, Mr. Ang is the architect of one of the most far-reaching transformations in the history of Philippine business.

Under his leadership, San Miguel Corporation has undergone a major strategic shift for the conglomerate, streamlining and broadening its business portfolio, reshaping and redefining the very nature of its core businesses.

While the company has significantly expanded its participation in its core business of food, beverage and packaging through regional acquisitions and integration, it has also established its leadership in industries critical to the Philippines’ growth: power generation, oil refining and marketing, infrastructure, and telecommunications, among others, making it a proxy of the Philippine economy.

Today, San Miguel holds in its portfolio the country’s major toll roads and expressways stretching more than 300 kilometers from northern to southern Luzon, the Boracay Airport project, and MRT-7 mass rail system.

In a relatively short period, the company’s energy subsidiary SMC Global Power Holdings Corporation, has become the largest power producer in Luzon. It is currently building two new power generation facilities that will provide an additional capacity in southern Philippines.

Under San Miguel, Petron Corp., the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines, is also undertaking an ambitious expansion and modernization program that enables it to fully convert its residual products into higher value gasoline, LPG, diesel and propylene.

Ang also has a strong sense of social responsibility. To date, San Miguel’s more than P1 billion donation to build over 5,000 new homes for families displaced by typhoon Sendong in Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, and Negros Oriental, and more recently a housing project for victims of typhoon Yolanda in Leyte is considered the largest single donation from a private entity in the Philippines.

In 2009, Ang was conferred the "Order of Sikatuna," or the Philippine Legion of Honor, rank of Grand Commander, for his meritorious services to the nation.
