Randi Ettner

Dr. Randi Ettner is a clinical and forensic psychologist whose practice is located in Evanston, Illinois, just north of Chicago. She received her Ph.D. in psychology at Northwestern University. She also studied at Harvard University; Moray College of Education in Edinburgh, Scotland; and Indiana University. Dr. Ettner is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Psychological Association, and numerous other professional organizations and boards.

Clinical Practice In her clinical practice, Dr. Ettner’s strategy is to tailor treatment to the individual: “I will work with you to meet your goals, and determine what will make you the happiest. Once we have an understanding of your needs, we will create a blueprint to get you to a place where you feel happy, healthy and whole.”

Energy Psychology A significant portion of Dr. Ettner’s clinical practice is devoted to working with the “emotional freedom technique”, or energy psychology. It is a therapeutic technique that provides an effective edge in the emotional and mental arenas. Dr. Ettner has used energy psychology to rid her patients of limiting beliefs; clear individuals of fears, traumas or worries; eliminate physical pain; and even enhance the on-field performance of athletes.

Energy psychology is based on Einstein’s theory that all matter, including the human body, is composed of energy. It attunes the body to a state of unique receptivity through the simple act of tapping on certain meridian points on the face and neck. It is a cousin of acupuncture, but uses no needles and is not invasive. It is a bit like hypnotherapy, but provides extra power because it integrates the body’s subtle energies.

Gender Another significant portion of Dr. Ettner’s clinical practice is dedicated to individuals with gender issues. She is a world-renowned expert on transgenderism, having authored two critically-acclaimed books on the subject, Gender Loving Care and Confessions of a Gender Defender. She addresses conferences around the world, and receives frequent invitations to appear on network television, including Oprah, Dateline NBC and ABC’s 20/20.
