Randy Olson Biography
Randy Olson is a “scientist-turned-filmmaker”. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, Olson was a professor of marine biology at the University of New Hampshire. After fifteen years of telling stories OF science he had grown more interested in telling stories ABOUT science. Olson resigned from his tenured professorship and moved to Hollywood to explore film as a medium for communicating science. He is the author of "Don't Be Such a Scientist ", as well as the writer and director of short and feature films including “The Ocean Symphony” and “Flock of Dodos”. Today, Olson is a communications consultant to science and environmental organizations including the CDC, NASA, the National Institute of Health. He is based in Los Angeles where his production company, Prairie Starfish Productions, has been located at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles for nearly a decade. Olson is a graduate of the University of Southern California's film school and holds a Ph.D from Harvard.
