Gregory Reid Wiseman is a test pilot in the US Navy and active NASA Astronaut. He was born on November 11, 1975 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Wiseman attended Dulaney High School in Baltimore, graduating in 1993. He received a bachelor's degree in computer technology and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1997. Following his graduation, Wiseman was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. He reported to Pensacola, Florida to begin flight training, being designated a naval aviator in 1999, entering Fighter Squadron 101, Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. He transitioned to the F-14 Tomcat and was transferred to Fighter Squadron 31, Oceana.
Supporting Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, Wiseman made two deployments to the Middle East. He attended a Shuttle launch in 2001 which contributed to his strong desire to become an astronaut.
In 2003, Wiseman was on the list of astronaut candidates recommended by the US Naval Command for the 19th NASA Astronaut Group. Wiseman was not given the opportunity of an interview and medical check at Johnson Space Center. In 2003 and 2004, Wiseman attended he U.S. Naval Test Pilot School becoming a Test Pilot and Project Officer at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Two Three (VX-23) at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. At VX-23, Wiseman received his master's degree in Systems Engineering. He also participated in flight test operations in different projects including the F-35 Lightning II, F-18 weapons separation, Ship Suitability and the T-45 Goshawk.
Next, Wiseman served as Strike Operations Officer at Carrier Air Wing Seventeen, completing a deployment to South America. He was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 103 - returning to Oceana to serve on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower flying the FA-18F Super Hornet.
In 2009, Reid Wisemen was selected as NASA Astronaut Candidate, reporting to Johnson Space Center in July for two years of basic space flight training and evaluation. He was certified as astronaut in 2011 and by August 2011, he was assigned to ISS Expedition 40/41 and the crew of Soyuz TMA-13M.
Reid Wiseman is married and has two daughters. His hobbies include golf, woodcrafting and jogging.
