Rene Syler is a well-known TV Personality best known a host on the CBS Early Show, Exhale, and Sweet Retreats.
Syler began her career in journalism as a weekend reporter at KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada, from 1987 to 1989. She then became a weekend anchor at KOLO-TV until 1990, when she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, to become the weekend anchor at WVTM-TV. In 1992, she became the morning and noon anchor at WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. She anchored newscasts at KTVT, a CBS-owned station in Dallas, from 1997 to 2002. From 2002 to 2006, Syler was an anchor on CBS News' The Early Show, where she conducted one on one interviews with First Lady Laura Bush, Senator John McCain and NASA’s first female shuttle commander, Eileen Collins
After leaving The Early Show in 2006, Syler remained busy, hosting a health-themed pilot for Fox and Telepicture’s Mom Logic pilot. She was a guest expert on several episodes of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and has made guest appearances on The View, The Nate Berkus Show, The Doctors, The Mo'Nique Show, The Wendy Williams Show, and CNN Headline News. She guest-hosted The Joy Behar Show in August 2010 on HLN.
In early January 2007, Rene Syler, already reeling from her unplanned exit from The Early Show on CBS, underwent a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. That is, she had her breasts removed even though she did not have cancer. In addition, she allowed the journey to be filmed and aired on for the Oprah Winfrey show. He purpose was to show women there are options and while many would not chart the radical course she did the risk factors are part of the process in determining what an individual can do to take control of their medical destiny.
Following this, Rene embarked on a book tour to promote her first title, Good Enough Mother. Her sincere belief is that parents do not have to be perfect to be successful in that task.
She is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists, American Women in Radio and Television and is a 2004 recipient of The Gracie Allen Award for her breast cancer series. Even before her breast cancer scare, Rene was very active in breast cancer causes and is the 2007-2008 Komen for the Cure ambassador.
