Emmy-nominated actor Richard Cabral starred for 4 seasons as ‘Coco’ on the hit FX series "Mayans M.C.," garnering a Critics Choice Award nomination for his work, and more recently was seen on a special event episode of "Law & Order: SVU." He is currently appearing on the new Peacock limited series "Twisted Metal" alongside Anthony Mackie and plays Detective Cruz on Fox’s "Lethal Weapon."
Cabral earlier appeared in the Lakeshore feature "Peppermint" opposite Jennifer Garner, the indie "Windows on the World" with Ryan Guzman and Edward James Olmos, and he starred opposite Martha Higareda in the critically acclaimed Gigi Saul Guerrero-directed Blumhouse/Hulu anthology "Into the Dark: Culture Shock." Cabral also starred in the Universal feature "Breaking In" from director James McTeigue opposite Gabrielle Union and was named one of Variety’s 10 Latinos to Watch. Cabral created very different and memorable roles in both Seasons 2 and 3 of the anthology series "American Crime" from John Ridley after his lauded Emmy Award-nominated performance in Season 1 of the show for his portrayal of Hector Tontz.
His previous credits include "Blood Father," "End of Watch," and "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones," among others. Cabral also created the one-man show "Fighting Shadows" based off his life as a former gang member who was rehabilitated through Homeboy Industries. He has performed the play to numerous sold-out audiences and is currently developing it into a full-length feature film. Cabral additionally produced and starred in the feature "Khali the Killer," which is being distributed by Millennium. He is also the founder of Lineage Entertainment Group, producing various projects including the film "Khali the Killer," and hosting a monthly Poetry Slam in Montebello, CA.
Born into a Mexican family involved in gangs since the 1970s, Cabral found himself living a life of incarceration until he met Father Greg of Homeboy Industries, who changed Cabral’s life by introducing him to art and acting. In addition to acting, poetry, and performing his critically acclaimed one-man show "Fighting Shadows," Cabral spends his free time doing charity work with Homeboy Industries and giving motivational speeches at juvenile detention centers and high schools around the country. He is actively involved in helping others transform their lives through his work with Homeboy Industries and his personal experiences overcoming gang life and incarceration.
