Rick Lagina

Rick Lagina is a retired U.S. postal worker from Northern Michigan who has dreamed of solving the Oak Island mystery since he first read about it in the January 1965 issue of Reader’s Digest at the age of 11.

Lagina is the kind of guy who sees the world in black and white. Honor is everything, and when you believe in something, you never give up. As he puts it, “Once in, forever in!” His faith that someone went to great efforts to hide something of incredible value centuries ago on Oak Island has only been strengthened by the many incredible clues he, his brother, Marty, and their team have discovered since they took over the treasure hunt in 2006.

"The Curse of Oak Island" follows brothers Marty and Rick Lagina as they attempt to find the speculated treasure or historical artifacts believed to be on Oak Island. The series discusses the island's history, recent discoveries, theories, and prior attempts to investigate the site. Areas of interest include the "Money Pit," Borehole 10-x, Smith's Cove, "Nolan's Cross," the "Hatch," and the "Swamp."

The Lagina brothers obtained a controlling interest in Oak Island Tours, which reportedly owns most of the island. Later, Prometheus Entertainment approached the brothers about doing a reality show. The brothers have engaged the assistance of father-and-son Dan and Dave Blankenship, permanent residents of the island who have likewise been searching for treasure since the 1960s.
