Robert Cray Biography
Robert Cray grew up loving soul and Blues and started playing the guitar at a young age. His early influences included Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Jimmie Page and Jeff Beck. When he heard Albert Collins, he was hooked on the Blues. For some time he played steadily with his band and his Stratocaster, but had some considerable trouble breaking out initially. Once he did, though, he couldn't be stopped. After recording "Showdown!" with is old idol Albert Collins, after that Robert won himself the first of many Grammys.
His smooth, soulful vocals with his amazing guitar playing abilities brings about a uniquely exquisite blend of Soul and Blues. He's recorded with B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Muddy Waters, to name a few. He's performed over 100 shows and still continues to tour extensively. He's won a well-deserved whole heap of Grammys and W.C. Handy Awards, has had two gold records and a platinum with his 1986 album Strong Persuader. Robert Cray is one of the most celebrated, revered, and honored contemporary Blues men in existence, and rightfully so. His music is the best of everything that is the Blues.
