Roopa Dhatt

Dr. Roopa Dhatt is a passionate advocate for gender equality in global health and has been a leading voice in the movement to correct the gender imbalance in global health leadership for a decade.

She is also a practicing Internal Medicine physician in Washington, D.C. Dr. Dhatt is particularly committed to addressing issues of power, privilege, and intersectionality that keep many women from global health leadership roles and to opening up spaces for the voices of these women to be heard. Determined to build a movement to transform women’s leadership opportunities in health, Dr. Dhatt co-founded Women in Global Health in 2015. Today, Women in Global Health has 58 chapters in 53 countries. Dr. Dhatt joined the World Economic Forum, Young Global Leaders in 2023. She was recognized in the Gender Equality Top 100, the most influential people in global policy 2019. She also joined as a public delegate the historical United States Delegation to the 65th Session of the United Nations Commission of the Status of Women in March 2021.

Dr. Dhatt was a #G7 #W7 Advisor to Japan and Germany. She is on the Scientific Advisory Board for PEPFAR in the U.S. Department of State. She co-chaired the Gender Equity Hub on Health Workforce hosted by WHO in the Global Health Workforce Network from 2017-2023. She was also was a member of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission, Global Health Diplomacy and Cooperation Task Force. She also is an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University.
