Royal Blood is a British rock duo known for their heavy, riff-driven sound that fuses hard rock, blues, and garage rock influences. Formed in 2011 in Brighton, England, the band consists of bassist and vocalist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher. Despite lacking a guitarist, Royal Blood creates a powerful, distorted sound by running Kerr’s bass through multiple effects pedals, giving the illusion of a full-band setup.
The band gained international attention with their self-titled debut album in 2014, which featured hits like "Out of the Black" and "Figure It Out." The album was a commercial and critical success, earning them a Mercury Prize nomination and comparisons to bands like The White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age. Their follow-up records, How Did We Get So Dark? (2017) and Typhoons (2021), saw them refining their sound while incorporating elements of dance-rock and psychedelia.
