Marine Stewardship Council's CEO, Rupert Howes, doesn't want to prevent people from fishing, in fact, his focus is quite the opposite. Howes wants to ensure that generation after generation will be able to consume fish as a vital food source the way our generation has. In order to achieve this goal, Howe's company, MSC, works ensure that global fisheries are operating in the most sustainable way. Recognizing that people around the world depend on fish for their protein, Howes is concerned that, at the rate fisheries are pulling in their fish, and how many areas of the sea are now depleted, future generations will not have the same access to fish, and therefore the nutrients they provide, as our generation has. And so, Howes is leading the MSC to ensure that all of the major fisheries are inspected and are able to prove their sustainability before they go out and fish in large quantities. Prior to being chosen as CEO of MSC over five years ago, Howes worked for Forum for the Future, another sustainability-focused non-profit. With degrees in Economics and Environmental Technology, and a passion for living green, Howes has found his niche with MSC and has helped grow the business immensely in his five years there.
