Sarah B. Hrdy is an anthropologist, professor emerita, and an award-winning author. Renowned in the field of evolutionary anthropology, she has devoted her life to exploring the richness and diversity of human nature.
She is a leading scientific expert on motherhood and the evolutionary basis of parenting in humans. Her six books -- including the trilogy "Mother Nature," "Mothers and Others" and "Father Time" -- blend rigorous scholarship with a novelist’s touch. Now a professor emerita at the University of California-Davis, she has shifted her research focus from mothers to men, exploring how the bodies, brains, and ambitions of 21st-century fathers are evolving as they take on caregiving roles for their babies.
A former Guggenheim fellow, Hrdy has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the California Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
She and her husband Dan have three children and currently combine growing walnuts with habitat restoration on their farm in northern California.
