Sassy Mohen’s innovative, bold, confident style has emerged as a pioneer in female-driven storytelling.
Her multiple award-winning hot topic comedy satire How to Hack Birth Control, which she directed, wrote and produced has been called “wickedly funny and charmingly scathing” by IndieShorts Magazine. Mohen and How to Hack Birth Control (2022) have smashed the festival circuit with official selections at over 60 festivals, including the upcoming Nashville Film Festival, and prestigious festivals such as Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival, NewFilmmakers LA, and Harlem Int. Film Festival. It has won 21 awards and 9 nominations and counting, including Best Picture; Best Director; Best Series; Special Jury Award, Best Series Pilot, Female Perspective Award and Best Editing award.
In 2023 the City of West Hollywood’s Women’s Advisory Board voted unanimously to endorse the project and has set up special screening events of it for its members and the community. The project has also picked up endorsements from NARAL – Pro-choice America, SheNYC Arts & Truth be Told, making her a sought-after speaker at women’s groups, colleges, and filmmaker workshops. Her professional and upbeat approach has been a hit among audiences of all ages nationwide. She is currently developing a speaking series based on her hit satire, How to Hack Birth Control, for the college circuit.
Her previous short film Fear Actually (2020) was released to rave reviews and won 3 Best Female Director Awards. FX Network tapped her to direct, write and produce for their online web channel, This Is AOK. She also won accolades with her rom-com web series "About Abby" (2010,) TV pilot "Weedland" (2016) and "A Single Girls Show" (2013.) Her first independent feature film Happy Holidays (2007) which she began while still in film school at Chapman University was initially labeled “too ambitious.” It would go on to turn a profit, be screened in theaters across the country and pick up distribution with IndieFlix.
She recently shot several promotions for the new Disney Studio film Disenchanted and branded content for Barbie, Kraft, Budlight, Hello Kitty's Funko Pop, Sabio Technical College, and music videos for bands including Bellhouse’s "Devils Sound."
Mohen is currently in development for her next feature film, On The Hook, a dramedy surrounding the impact of the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade on three freshman college students in Texas along with other film and tv projects.
