Scott Kahan, MD, MPH

Dr. Scott Kahan is a physician specializing in weight management, preventive medicine, and public health.

Dr. Kahan serves as Director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness in Washington, DC, the Medical Director of the George Washington University Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, and the Chair of the Clinical Committee for The Obesity Society (TOS). He is also on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). He has received numerous awards, including the OAC Healthcare Provider Advocate of the Year and The Obesity Society’s 2017 Clinician of the Year. Dr. Kahan was the Chair of the 2019 Convention Program Agenda Committee.

In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Dr. Kahan holds faculty appointments at Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, and George Mason University. Through these positions and his public health initiatives, he works to advocate for systemic changes in public health policies and practices, notably in the areas of obesity and chronic disease prevention. His contributions extend to national health interventions and collaborations with organizations focused on public health improvement. Dr. Kahan is committed to advancing public health practice towards a more population-based, strategic framework, ensuring comprehensive approaches to health and well-being in various communities.
