Seun Adebiyi, a Yale Law School graduate, is the co-founder of the Bone Marrow Registry in Nigeria and a cancer survivor turned advocate. Licensed to practice law in New York and Georgia, he boasts a successful career in both corporate and entrepreneurial ventures. Adebiyi’s career took a notable turn when he interned at Goldman Sachs in 2008, becoming the only attorney in the firm's history to be hired directly in-house after graduation. His academic journey began early, starting college at 14 and graduating summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh.
Born in Nigeria, Adebiyi moved to the United States at the age of six. In 2010, he left Goldman Sachs to train for the Winter Olympics, establishing Nigeria's first Winter Olympic federation. This milestone enabled Nigeria's debut in the Winter Olympics in 2018, where Adebiyi had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch at the Seoul Games. Beyond his Olympic efforts, Adebiyi accumulated substantial professional experience as a management consultant for Bain & Co. and contributed to the firm's establishment in Nigeria. He also served as a global health project manager for the American Cancer Society, working to improve morphine availability for cancer patients in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda.
In 2012, Adebiyi founded the Bone Marrow Registry in Nigeria, the second African stem cell donor registry listed with the World Marrow Donors Association. The registry has facilitated donor matches for cancer patients in various countries, including the USA, UK, Germany, and Nigeria. As a respected speaker, Adebiyi has lectured at institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Yale, and Columbia on leadership, entrepreneurship, and global health equity. His contributions to global health earned him a humanitarian award from Her Royal Highness Dina Mired of Jordan in 2013. In 2016, he launched a virtual law firm specializing in contract negotiations for private equity funds.
Diagnosed with two rare and aggressive blood cancers in 2009, Adebiyi’s survival depended on finding a genetically compatible donor for a stem cell transplant, a challenge he overcame. This personal ordeal spurred his dedication to creating health equity for cancer patients, particularly in increasing the number of stem cell donors of African descent. Despite his demanding schedule, Adebiyi enjoys aviation, scuba diving, and yoga and often spends time in Hawaii, Paris, or Thailand.
