Before joining The New York Times in 2017, he worked at Politico, where he covered national Republican politics and the 2016 presidential campaign. He also served as chief White House correspondent for Politico in the first months of the Trump administration. Before that, he worked for National Journal magazine, where he covered both Congress and campaigns. There, he won the National Press Club’s Sandy Hume Award for Excellence in Political Journalism for a series on lobbyist-sponsored travel.
