Shane Salter

Shane Salter's life was marked by early challenges, including being born to a teenage mother struggling with drug addiction. This led him to take on the responsibility of caring for his infant brother at just four years old. His subsequent years in foster care and experiences as a teen dad and single parent deepened his commitment to child advocacy.

Salter is not only the author of "Fostering Hope" but also an accomplished public speaker and educator. He currently teaches Business and Computer Technology in Charlotte and has held significant positions such as Chief of Staff for Health and Human Services under Mayor Anthony Williams in Washington D.C., and Executive Director of CASA for Children of DC. His exceptional work in these roles is complemented by his past experience as the Executive Director of March of Dimes Atlanta and other leadership roles in various foundations and educational institutions.

A holder of undergraduate degrees in healthcare management and human services from Elmira College and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, as well as a master's degree in leadership and management from Webster University, Salter has been recognized for his contributions to public service and child welfare. His accolades include being an Olympic Torchbearer, induction into the National Fatherhood Hall of Fame, and receiving an EMMY Award for his contribution to "Keeping Kids Healthy."

Salter covers a range of topics such as "Broken Crayons Do Color" and "The Four-Year-Old Parent: Keeping Siblings Together," drawing from his personal experiences to inspire and advocate for children from all backgrounds. His dedication extends beyond his professional achievements, evident in his personal life where he is the proud father of three adult children by birth and four children by adoption. Through both his personal and professional life, Salter embodies his belief in fostering hope and living life with purpose.
