Sharon Vosmek has been CEO of Astia since 2007, previously joining as COO in 2004. As CEO of Astia, she has an unwavering passion and a uniquely well-suited background to drive forward the organization's mission of propelling women's full participation as entrepreneurs and leaders in high-growth businesses, fueling innovation and driving economic growth. Under her leadership, Astia has grown from 20 individuals in Silicon Valley to a global community of over 5,000 investors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders, thereby expanding its reach to North America, Europe, South America, and India.
Prior to joining Astia, Vosmek founded SJ Vosmek & Associates, a management firm that included clients such as PG&E, PacBell (now AT&T), and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She held management positions at American Express and in the office of United States Senator, Dennis DeConcini. Vosmek's dedication to the cause can be seen in her active involvement in various advisory boards. She serves on the Advisory Boards of venture capital firms StarVest Partners and Illuminate Ventures, the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst Experts Advisor Group, the AAAS-Lemelson Invention Ambassadors Advisory Committee, and the "Making Value for America" expert advisory committee for the National Academy of Engineering.
Vosmek is not only a successful leader but also a highly sought-after speaker. She has given talks at esteemed institutes and conferences including the United Nations, the Milken Institute's Global Conference, California Summit, as well as lectures at Stanford and MIT. She was invited to participate in The White House Women's Entrepreneurship Conference and The Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship led by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In 2011, she served as a US Delegate to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation's (APEC) Women and the Economy Summit. Such engagements exemplify her global recognition and the respect she has garnered in her field.
In her ongoing efforts to address the gender gap in venture capital funding, Vosmek has had a significant impact. In 2021, she led Astia's first venture fund of $100M, a milestone in her mission to level the investment playing field for entrepreneurial teams with women leaders. Vosmek has a master's degree in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a bachelor's degree in political science from Arizona State University.
