Shelma Jun

Shelma Jun is best known as the founder of Flash Foxy and the creator of the Women's Climbing Festival. Flash Foxy, born in 2014, is a multi-media platform celebrating women climbing with women and offering a space for inspiration and connection. The Women’s Climbing Festival, launched in 2016 in Bishop, California, gathers 300 women annually for a weekend filled with climbing, panels, and clinics. The festival expanded in 2017 to include a new location in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Jun's dedication to community building and diversity in the climbing world is reflected in her work, which includes various speaking engagements, panel participation, and contributions to the American Alpine Club, Access Fund, Climbing Magazine, Outside Online, and other publications.

Jun is a Korean immigrant residing in Brooklyn, New York. Her activism and advocacy blend her passion for creating spaces where women can empower each other and her commitment to grassroots initiatives amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups. Jun's distinctive style, marked by her signature earrings and denim shorts, illustrates the diversity within the climbing community. Complementing her advocacy work, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Access Fund. In 2017, she was recognized as one of 40 women who have significantly influenced the outdoor world by Outside Magazine.

Before founding Flash Foxy, Jun utilized her BA in Business Economics and MA in Urban Planning from UCLA as a Community Design Manager and Community Planner at Hester Street Collaborative and Asian Americans for Equality, respectively. During her time there, she developed participatory tools for public space shaping, facilitated the creation of public art installations, and co-founded the Biking Public Project, which strives to broaden local cycling advocacy discussions. In addition to her non-profit work, Jun is a licensed CPA in California, with experience at Deloitte & Touche, LLC. An AMGA-certified Single Pitch Instructor and Apprentice Rock Guide, Jun splits her time between Brooklyn, New York, and the Eastern Sierra, California, enjoying climbing at the Gunks and Bishop.
