Shohini Ghose

Shohini Ghose is a renowned physicist and a pioneer in the field of quantum science. She is a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, the founding director of the Laurier Centre for Women in Science (WinS) and Chief Technology Officer of the Quantum Algorithms Institute. Ghose’s research focuses on quantum mechanics, quantum computing, and quantum information science. She has made significant contributions to the understanding of quantum chaos, entanglement, and the ways in which quantum systems interact with their environment.

In 2014, Ghose became the first scientist to observe the behavior of electrons in a manner that confirmed the key principles of quantum mechanics. This groundbreaking discovery placed her at the forefront of quantum research. Beyond her work in the lab, Ghose is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in STEM fields, actively working to promote gender equality and supporting underrepresented groups in science through her leadership at WinS.

Ghose is also a popular science communicator, frequently delivering talks at major conferences and public events. She is the author of "Her Space, Her Time", which tells the inspiring stories of long-overlooked women physicists and astronomers. Ghose, who was elected to the College of the Royal Society of Canada, is currently building the country's quantum ecosystem, as a member of its national advisory council on quantum strategy. She also serves on the Scientific Board of the UNESCO International Basic Science Program.
