Shohreh Aghdashloo Biography
A popular figure in the Iranian film and theatre communities, Shohreh Aghdashloo made her U.S. film debut in 1989 and for the next 14 years appeared intermittently in American TV programs and movies, often to critical acclaim. In 2001, she performed in The House of Sand and Fog alongside Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. The role garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and public recognition.
Aghdashloo also had a recurring role on the television series 24, and starred in the HBO miniseries House of Sadaam, winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movies.
In 2013, she released her autobiography, The Alley of Love and Yellow Jasmines.
Aghdashloo is an activist, speaking out for women's rights and human rights in her native Iran and elsewhere. She was awarded a Career Achievement Award in 2010 by the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans.
