Sonja Sohn Biography
Sonja Sohn is an American actress, director, and activist best known for her role as Detective Kima Greggs on HBO's critically acclaimed series "The Wire." She was cast as George Foreman's wife in "Big George Foreman," and she is in "Will Trent" a Hulu series.
Her poetry performances, which often tackled issues of race and identity, led her to a role in the independent film "Slam" (1998), which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Sohn is a dedicated activist. She founded ReWired for Change, a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering at-risk youth, inspired by her experiences on "The Wire." The organization works with individuals and communities to reduce crime and improve social justice outcomes. Sohn has also been involved in various other initiatives focused on social justice, criminal justice reform, and community development.
More recently, she made her directorial debut with the HBO documentary "Baltimore Rising" (2017), which chronicles the activism and protests following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody. The film explores the complex relationships between law enforcement and the Baltimore community, reflecting Sohn’s ongoing commitment to addressing systemic issues in the justice system.
