Sophia Chang

Sophia Chang is a music business matriarch who has managed significant artists including ODB (RIP), RZA, GZA, Q Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, Raphael Saadiq, and D'Angelo. Throughout her career, she has held key positions across the industry, including marketing at Atlantic Records, A&R at Jive Records, A&R Administration at Universal Music Group, and as General Manager at both Razor Sharp Records and Cinematic Music Group—where she managed artists like Joey Bada$$ and Mick Jenkins. Chang’s experience extends beyond music; in 1995, she left the industry to manage her then-partner’s USA Shaolin Temple and focus on her family. She also ventured into fashion, producing runway shows for Vivienne Tam and "Project Runway All Stars."

Chang's contributions to media include selling a screenplay to HBO and developing additional film and TV properties, such as a scripted series at FX based on her life. Her memoir, "Raised by Wu-Tang: Baddest Bitch in the Room," released in print on September 8, 2020, details her journey in the music industry and her role as the first Asian woman in hip hop. Recently, she was featured in an episode of the Hulu series "Defining Moments," highlighting key points in her career. In addition to her creative endeavors, she has held the position of Vice President of Business Development at MedMen and was an account executive at Sarkissian Mason, a digital agency.

Currently, Chang is an active speaker addressing topics like networking, negotiating race and identity in America, and leveraging personal identity for professional success. She continues to inspire with her new initiative, Unlock Her Potential, a mentorship program aimed at supporting women of color. Through a combination of mentorship and ongoing creative projects, Chang remains a pivotal figure in both the music industry and cultural storytelling, advocating for personal empowerment and equality.
