On July 1, 1995, Stanley Hupfeld became President and Chief Executive Officer of INTEGRIS Health, an integrated delivery system composed of INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, and INTEGRIS Rural Health. The system comprises 13 hospitals, all in Oklahoma, with annual net revenues exceeding $1.3 billion and a total of 1600 beds. Before this role, Hupfeld served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Oklahoma Healthcare Corporation and Baptist Medical Center of Oklahoma from March 1987. On January 1, 2010, he transitioned to Chairman of the INTEGRIS Family of Foundations.
Hupfeld is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Hospital Association and served as Chairman of the Regional Policy Board (7). His extensive service in healthcare governance also includes roles as Chairman of the Coalition to Protect America's Health Care and as a fundraising Co-Chair. He has held numerous leadership positions including Campaign Chairman and Chairman of the Board of the United Way in both Fort Worth and Oklahoma City and has been involved with the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce as a Board member and past Chairman.
Hupfeld has made significant contributions to healthcare discussions, especially in the areas of healthcare reform and the management of end-of-life care. He uses a unique "Spock theme" to critique the logic often absent in healthcare reform debates and advocates for decisions driven by Vulcan-like logic and compassion, particularly concerning the significant healthcare spending in the last months of a person's life. He is the author of "Political Malpractice, How The Politicians Made A Mess of Health Reform," and actively writes a healthcare column for The Journal Record, a local business daily.
In recognition of his leadership and innovation, Hupfeld has received multiple accolades including CEO Marketer of the Year by the American Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing, the W. Cleveland Rodgers Distinguished Service Award, and The Award of Honor from the American Hospital Association. He also significantly influenced education in healthcare by spearheading the nation's first hospital-sponsored charter school, The Stanley Hupfeld Academy at Western Village, named in his honor in 2009.
Stanley Hupfeld holds an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Texas in Austin, where he was a member of the 1963 National Championship Football Team, and a Masters of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University. His career in healthcare administration began as an Administrative Resident at Providence Hospital in El Paso, Texas, eventually becoming the first lay-President of St. Joseph Hospital in El Paso, serving from 1973 to 1977.
