Stephanie Flanders

Stephanie Flanders is the Chief Market Strategist for UK and Europe at JP Morgan Asset Management. Previously, she served as senior executive editor for economics at Bloomberg News and head of Bloomberg Economics. Her extensive background also includes her role as the BBC’s economics editor from 2008, where she was responsible for overseeing the BBC’s economics coverage on television, radio, and online.

Flanders began her career as an economist at the London Business School and the Institute for Fiscal Studies. She then worked as a speech-writer and special advisor to US Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers during the Clinton Administration. Her journalism career includes stints as a reporter for The New York Times, principal editor of the UN Development Program’s 2002 Human Development Report, editorial writer, and economics columnist at the Financial Times.

In addition to her current role, she continues to contribute to the public understanding of economics through media. She presents the Radio 4 programme "Start the Week" and has also presented "Newsnight" on BBC2, and "The Bottom Line" on Radio 4. Her contributions to journalism have been recognized with several awards, including the Harold Wincott award for online journalism in 2010 for her blog, Stephanomics, and Broadcast Journalist of the Year at the Work Foundation’s Workworld Awards in 2006. Flanders also chaired the Royal Society of Arts’ Inclusive Growth Commission.
