Stephen J Kobrin

Stephen J. Kobrin is the William H. Wurster Emeritus Professor of Multinational Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests include globalization, global governance, the social and political impacts of the digital revolution, the politics of international business, and global strategy. He teaches MBA courses in multinational management and international political-economy. Professor Kobrin worked for Proctor and Gamble as a Brand Manager in the United States and Venezuela and has taught at MIT's Sloan School and at the Graduate School of Business at N.Y.U. He joined the faculty of the Wharton School in 1987 and has served as Director of the Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies and Chair of the Management Department. He has a Ph.D. in International Business from the University of Michigan, an MBA from Wharton, and a B.Mgt.Eng. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Professor Kobrin has published three books, including Managing Political Risk Assessment. Recent articles and book chapters include: MAI and the Clash of Globalizations; Back to the Future: Neomedievalism and the Postmodern Digital World Economy; The Architecture of Globalization: State Sovereignty in a Networked Global Economy and Electronic Cash and the End of National Markets.

He is actively involved in executive education at Wharton, serving as an Academic Director of Wharton's Advanced Management Program and the school's China programs. He lectures regularly on topics such as globalization and the impact of the digital revolution, governing cyberspace (regulating and taxing the Internet), privacy in the digital age, "is globalization real?", the reasons for the backlash against globalization and how it might affect business, and the unfinished revolution in international politics.
