He ran his family's investment office from 1995 to 2001 and now shares that responsibility with several family members. With his guidance, the family has reconfigured the family office, given it focus and strategic direction, rebuilt its economic engine to grow family wealth, restructured advisory relationships, improved family communications/wealth education and strengthened estate planning.
Stuart Lucas was formerly Senior Managing Director of the Ultra-high Net Worth Group within Private Client Services at Chicago-based Bank One. This Group served the approximately 150 private clients with assets at the bank in excess of $25 million. During the 1980s he worked for Wellington Management Company, a wealth management firm, serving for three years as General Manager of the firm's European business operations and, prior to that, as Assistant Portfolio Manager of a Forbes Honor Roll mutual fund. Between 1989 and 1994 he also worked in the private equity business in both Europe and the United States.
Stuart Lucas has a long-standing commitment to public service that complements his work with families. He is Vice Chairman of the National Public Radio Foundation in Washington, D.C. He is also Vice Chairman of the Stuart Foundation in San Francisco. He serves on both foundations' investment committees, overseeing approximately $700 million. He serves on the Board of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and on its Development Committee. In the past, he served on the Board of Visitors of the Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth College and on the Auxiliary Board of the Art Institute of Chicago.
