Summer Rayne Oakes, originally researching toxins in sewage sludge and identifying aquatic insects, began merging her interests in environmental science with fashion, believing the industry could significantly promote environmental awareness. Known as the world's first eco-model, Oakes has combined her environmental expertise with a modeling career, advocating sustainability in the fashion, food, and beauty industries.

In addition to her modeling endeavors, she has significantly influenced sustainable practices as a brand ambassador and sustainability strategist for companies like Portico Home and Payless ShoeSource's zoe&zac line. She is also the author of "Style, Naturally," a guide on sustainable fashion and beauty, and "SugarDetoxMe: 100 Recipes to Curb Cravings and Take Back Your Health," which focuses on managing sugar intake through guided cleanses. Her work extends to media, where she served as a correspondent for Discovery Networks, enhancing her reach in promoting environmental sustainability.

Oakes co-founded Source4Style (now Le Souk), a sustainable material marketplace that aids designers in sourcing eco-friendly materials globally. Her commitment to sustainability is also evident at her home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where she manages "Homestead Brooklyn," a platform encouraging urban nature engagement through gardening, and tends to an indoor garden comprising over 700 plants.
