Susan Cameron

Susan M. Cameron became president and chief executive of Reynolds American Inc. (RAI) and president of subsidiary RAI Services Company on May 1, 2014, succeeding Daniel M. Delen. Cameron is also a director on the RAI board.

Cameron had been RAI’s chairman, president and chief executive officer prior to Delen’s tenure, and she rejoined the RAI board as a director on Dec. 5, 2013. Cameron previously served as the president and CEO of RAI, and as a member of the board, from 2004 through her retirement in February 2011. She was the board chairman from January 2006 through October 2010. At the time of the October 2010 announcement of her intention to retire from the company and its board the next year, the board decided to split the roles of chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Thomas Wajnert replaced Cameron as chairman.

From 2001 to 2004, she was president and CEO of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. Brown & Williamson and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. combined their U.S. businesses in 2004. At that time, Cameron was named president and CEO of the new parent company, Reynolds American, created at the time of the merger. Before the merger, Cameron had served as president and CEO of Brown & Williamson since 2001. She joined that company in 1981 as a sales representative, and worked in numerous international and domestic marketing roles during her tenure.

Cameron also serves as a non-executive director on the boards of RR Donnelly and Tupperware Brands Corporation, and serves as a trustee for the University of Florida.

Cameron received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in business administration Bellarmine University.

Cameron has been active in a number of women’s leadership initiatives, and during her previous tenure as RAI’s CEO was recognized by Forbes magazine, FORTUNE magazine and the Financial Times as one of the most powerful women in business.
