Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins, an author and television writer, launched her career in 1991, writing for children's television shows such as Nickelodeon's "Clarissa Explains It All" and "Little Bear." Her work in television earned her a Writers Guild of America nomination for the critically acclaimed 2001 Christmas special, "Santa, Baby!" Collins' transition into the literary world was inspired by her encounter with children's author James Proimos while working on the Kids' WB show "Generation O!"

Collins is predominantly known for her young adult dystopian book series "The Hunger Games," which she released in 2008. The success of this series was further amplified by the release of the second book, "Catching Fire," in 2009 and the third installment, "Mockingjay," in 2010. Collins' work on "The Hunger Games" trilogy earned her a place among Time magazine's most influential people in 2010 and made her the best-selling Kindle author of all time in March 2012. The series was later adapted into a successful film series with Jennifer Lawrence as the lead.

In addition to "The Hunger Games," Collins is also the author of the children's fantasy series "The Underland Chronicles," which began with "Gregor the Overlander," inspired by Alice in Wonderland. She continued expanding the "Hunger Games" universe with the release of a prequel titled "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" in June 2019 and announced another prequel titled "Sunrise on the Reaping" to be released in March 2025. The film adaptation of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" premiered in 2023, and a fifth adaptation with Lionsgate is in the works for "Sunrise on the Reaping," set for 2026. Collins' literary contributions have been acknowledged with numerous awards, including the California Young Reader Medal, Publishers Weekly's Best Books of the Year: Children's Fiction, and the 2016 Authors Guild Award for Distinguished Service to the Literary Community.
