Taboo

The multi-talented Jimmy Gomez, also known as "Taboo," is not only a member of the global chart-topping sensation, The Black Eyed Peas, but also an accomplished dancer, actor, author, and philanthropist. His work extends beyond music into motivational speaking, particularly on topics related to his music career and Native American heritage.

Born in East Los Angeles, Taboo is of Mexican-American and Native American (Shoshone) descent. He followed his dream of becoming an entertainer and rose from humble beginnings to achieve significant success. His journey in the entertainment industry began when he met his future bandmates, will.i.am and apl.de.ap, at a breakdancing club in LA. This meeting led to the formation of The Black Eyed Peas. The addition of vocalist Fergie to the group marked a turning point, and their breakout album "Elephunk" catapulted them to superstardom. Following albums like "Monkey Business" and "The E.N.D." broke several records, with hits such as "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feelin" dominating Billboard charts.

Taboo has the distinct honor of being the first Mexican/Native American artist to headline the Super Bowl XLV halftime show. His commitment to his roots is evident in his advocacy for Native American rights and environmental causes, notably his opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline.

He has also authored an autobiography, "Fallin' Up: My Story," which details his rise from the challenges of gang violence in East L.A. to international fame. In 2014, Taboo was diagnosed with Stage 2 testicular cancer, undergoing 12 weeks of aggressive chemotherapy and ultimately defeating the disease. His experience inspired the song "The Fight," released in collaboration with the American Cancer Society to support cancer awareness.

Today, while continuing his music career, Taboo leverages his platform to inspire and educate others, sharing insights from his life experiences and cultural heritage. His engagement in these areas emphasizes his role not just as an entertainer, but as a significant cultural and motivational figure.
