Tamar Geller

Tamar Geller is the founder of "The Loved Dog" method of dog training and a New York Times bestselling author of a book by the same name. She is an esteemed life coach for dogs and the people who love them. Known for her unique and humane approach to dog training, Geller rejects both the notion that a dog needs to be submissive, as well as the usage of painful prong collars and choke chains that have been common tools of dog trainers for decades.

Geller became interested in dogs while observing their training during her tenure as an Intelligence Officer with the elite Israeli Army Special Forces. After completing her service, she studied wolves in their natural habitat and noted that they taught their young primarily through games. This observation led her to develop her innovative method of dog training, which leverages game-based behavior training techniques. Geller describes dogs as "amazingly sensitive and intuitive creatures" who respond better to coaching that uses stress-free, game-based methods rather than fear and aggression.

A pioneer in the field, Geller opened Southern California's first cage-free doggy daycare and boarding facility, "The Loved Dog," in 1996. This concept, initially met with skepticism, has now become a standard in major cities across the United States. Geller is a sought-after public speaker, having spoken about dog behavior at institutions such as Cal-Poly University Veterinary School and Pepperdine University. She has also participated in a virtual discussion with Reese Witherspoon on "Hello Sunshine" about dog behavior and has been featured on Focus TV discussing her non-aggressive training methods.

Geller’s book, "The Loved Dog: The Playful Nonaggressive Way to Teach Your Dog Good Behavior" was launched with support from her client and mentor Oprah Winfrey, and features a foreword by the CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. Additionally, her DVD, "The Loved Dog Way of Training," encapsulates her philosophy and is available online and in various retail outlets. An advocate for animals, Geller works closely with major animal rights organizations, including the Humane Society of the United States and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and has provided educational content for PETA.

Geller continues to serve as a resident dog expert on national television shows and has an extensive list of celebrity clients. She remains committed to improving the lives of dogs and their owners through her revolutionary training methods and advocacy work.
