Teemu Selanne Biography
Teemu Selanne, known for his speed and goal scoring ability, currently holds the NHL record for the most goals by a rookie with 76; his rookie season point total of 132 ranking him as second. Though he only played in Winnipeg for four seasons, Selanne is still known as one of the all-time favorite Jets.
Formerly a kindergarten teacher, Selanne played in the Finnish SM-liiga from 1988 to 1992. He was selected by the Winnipeg Jets 10th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Establishing an all-time rookie record he scored 76 goals in his rookie season. Selanne rejoined the Mighty Ducks signing a one year contract in 2005 and led them in scoring during the 2005-06 season, registering 40 goals and 90 points in 80 games.
Selanne recorded his 1,000th NHL point in 2006 with his second goal against the LA Kings, becoming the 70th player, as well as the 7th European player, to achieve the milestone.
