Terry Ellis

Terry Ellis is an acclaimed R&B singer known for her contribution to the music industry both as a solo performer and as a founding member of the R&B/pop vocal group, En Vogue. Ellis kickstarted her career with En Vogue by taking the lead on the group's debut single, "Hold On," which rose to number 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Other notable performances include her lead vocals on "Lies" and "Don't Go," both securing top-five positions on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In 1995, Ellis ventured into a solo career, releasing her debut album, "Southern Gal."

Ellis' journey with En Vogue has not been without its challenges and triumphs. The group's second studio album, "Funky Divas," released in 1992, sold over 3.5 million copies in the United States. Ellis shared lead vocals on one of the album's top-charting singles, "Free Your Mind," which earned two MTV Video Music Awards. Later, Ellis was featured in the extended version of "Don't Let Go (Love)," recorded in 1996. Despite leaving the group in 1995, Ellis continued to contribute to En Vogue's albums and was involved in legal disputes over the use of the group's name.

Beyond the stage, Ellis' influence extends into the academic realm. She is an alumnus of Prairie View A&M University, and her vocal prowess, showcased through her three-octave range, serves as an inspiration for aspiring artists. Ellis signed to Pyramid Records in 2014, alongside En Vogue members Cindy Herron and Rhona Bennett, and released "An En Vogue Christmas" the same year. Despite legal challenges, including a lawsuit after a label flip and a dispute over the use of the En Vogue moniker, Ellis continues to create music and engage with her fans.
