Thad Matta

College basketball coach Thad Matta returned to his alma mater Butler University in April 2022, marking his second stint as the head coach of the men's basketball program. With an illustrious coaching career spanning 18 years, including notable tenures at Butler, Ohio State, and Xavier universities, Matta boasts an impressive record of 453-172 (.725).

Originally starting his head coaching career at Butler during the 2000-01 season, Matta was named the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year, leading the Bulldogs to a school-record 24 wins, a league regular-season championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

At Xavier from 2001 to 2004, Matta propelled the Musketeers to three consecutive 26-win seasons, two regular-season championships, and an Elite Eight appearance in 2004.

His remarkable coaching journey continued at Ohio State from 2004 to 2017, where he led the team to two Final Four appearances and the 2007 National Championship game. Matta's tenure at Ohio State included numerous accolades such as nine NCAA Tournament trips, five Big Ten regular season championships, four Big Ten Tournament titles, and the 2008 NIT crown. He became the all-time winningest coach in Ohio State men's basketball history, earning induction into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.
