Formed in 2010, the band's current line-up consists of Katie Jayne Earl, Dave Appelbaum, Josh Hogan, Matthew Di Panni, and Andy Warren. The Mowgli's are known for their unique sound, a fusion of alternative rock, indie rock, indie folk, and sunshine pop. They have released several albums, extended plays, and singles under reputable labels such as Island and Republic.

The band's name pays tribute to a former member's dog, Mowgli, named after the beloved character from Rudyard Kipling's novel "The Jungle Book." In addition to their music, the band members have a personal connection, as evidenced by guitarist/singer Josh Hogan's proposal to singer/percussionist Katie Earl in 2016, leading to their marriage in 2017.
