Tim Weiner

Tim Weiner is an award-winning author and reporter.

As a reporter, he has covered soldiers, spies, terrorism, war and revolution for 25 years. He has reported for The New York Times from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cuba, Haiti, and many other nations around the world.

Weiner won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting as an investigative reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer, for his articles on the black budget spending at the Pentagon and the CIA. His book Blank Check: The Pentagon's Black Budget is based on that newspaper series.

His history of the CIA, “Legacy of Ashes,” is an international bestseller, and won the 2007 National Book Award for Nonfiction. He serves as the director of the nonfiction residency program for reporters, writers, and documentary makers at the Carey Institute and teaches as an Anschutz Distinguished Fellow in American Studies at Princeton.

Weiner has been interviewed by all the major broadcast and cable networks on the subjects of intelligence, terrorism, 21st-century warfare, and national security. His speeches take audiences into the inner workings of American power. He has lectured at the CIA, the Pentagon, Presidential libraries, historical societies, college campuses and at private associations. As a veteran of seven reporting tours in Afghanistan over the past 25 years, he has lectured on the American war in Afghanistan.
