Timothy Goebel Biography
Men's figure skater Timothy Richard is best known for winning a bronze medal at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
He demonstrates an astonishing ability to land quadruple jumps and has become the first skater on the planet to master a quadruple salchow. He is also the first American skater to ever land a quadruple jump of any kind in a competition. During the peak of his career, his repertoire of quadruple jumps made him one of the most competitive skaters in the world.
At Skate America (an International Skating Union Grand Prix competition), Goebel landed three quadruple jumps in a single performance. On Oct. 31, 1999, he became the first figure skater to land three quadruple jumps in one program. His work also made history at the 2002 Olympics by becoming the first skater to successfully land a quad salchow jump in combination at an Olympic competition.
On April 25, 2006, Goebel announced his retirement from competitive skating and now hopes to attend Columbia or NYU.
