Tina Knowles

Tina Knowles is a businesswoman, fashion designer, and philanthropist recognized for establishing the fashion brands House of Deréon and Miss Tina by Tina Knowles. Her fashion acumen was integral in shaping the looks of Destiny’s Child during their rise to global fame. Besides her work with her well-known daughters, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, Knowles further broadened her reach in the fashion industry in 2010 when she expanded her affordable clothing line, "Miss Tina by Tina Knowles," to Walmart.

Knowles's career extends beyond the fashion industry. She has taken on roles in film and television, providing wardrobe direction for Beyoncé's "Life Is But a Dream" in 2013 and making appearances in "Beyoncé: Lemonade" in 2016 and "Homecoming" in 2019. Her acting debut came in 2022 with "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder" and the Lifetime movie "Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story." Her numerous contributions to Beyoncé's "Black Is King" on Disney+ resulted in her being credited as an art curator for the project.

Knowles has also made strides in multimedia, hosting an Instagram show titled "Talks with Mama Tina," which focuses on voter suppression and race relations. The show began airing on Facebook in December 2021, featuring interviews with celebrities like Ciara and Zendaya. The show’s theme song was recognized with a nomination for Outstanding Original Song at the 49th Daytime Emmy Awards. Knowles also produces a docuseries titled "Profiled: The Black Man" for Discovery, Inc. and the Oprah Winfrey Network.

In addition to her contributions to fashion and entertainment, Knowles is deeply committed to philanthropy and community work. She co-founded the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth in Houston, providing resources and support to underserved youth. In partnership with Beyoncé, she established the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House in 2010 and the Survivor Foundation to provide transitional housing for hurricane victims. They also actively promoted COVID-19 testing in Houston and beyond. Knowles has supported civil rights movements and opposed gender inequality, particularly for African Americans and the LGBT community. She co-founded the Where Art Can Occur (WACO) Theater Center, a non-profit organization in Los Angeles, and has advocated for the passage of the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Knowles's commitment to her work and community has been recognized with several awards. In 2001, she was honored at the Accessories Council Excellence Awards, and in 2021, she presented the Change Maker Award at the Billboard Music Awards. In 2020, she received the Inspiring Leadership Award at the Essence Festival's Empowerment Experience. Her upcoming memoir, "Matriarch," will be published in April 2025.
