Tom Daley

At just fourteen years and three months old, Tom Daley was the youngest British Olympian since rowing coxswain Ken Lester, when he competed at the Beijing Olympics. Daley, who began diving at the age of seven, won the British national junior platform title in 2004 just a few days after his tenth birthday.

Daley won two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, adding to his growing collection. At the London 2012 Olympics, he won an individual bronze medal, capturing the hearts and minds of the British public. He added a second Olympic bronze to his collection at Rio 2016 in the synchronised event with Daniel Goodfellow. The British sensation would finally upgrade to Olympic gold alongside Matty Lee in the men’s 10m synchronised competition at Tokyo 2020 in his fourth appearance at the Games.

After achieving significant success, Daley took a two-year break from the sport before returning for Paris 2024, where he won Silver for the Men's Synchronized 10m Platform. Soon after, he announced his retirement.

Daley's journey transcends the pool, extending into activism. Beyond his athletic achievements, Daley made headlines by coming out as gay in a 2013 YouTube video. He has since been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, adding another dimension to his impactful career. He visited various Commonwealth countries to investigate LGBTQ+ rights for athletes, shedding light on the issue worldwide.
