Tom Davenport

Tom Davenport is the President’s Distinguished Professor in Management and Information Technology at Babson College, the co-founder of the International Institute for Analytics, a Fellow of the MIT Initiative for the Digital Economy, and a Senior Advisor to Deloitte Analytics. As an expert on analytics and artificial intelligence, Davenport advises numerous companies and startups. He has written or co-authored sixteen best-selling business books and more than 100 articles for prestigious publications like Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, and the Financial Times. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and has held teaching positions at Harvard Business School, the University of Chicago, the Tuck School of Business, Boston University, and the University of Texas at Austin.

Davenport has been recognized as one of Harvard Business Review’s most frequently published authors. He introduced the business concept of "competing on analytics" with his influential 2006 Harvard Business Review article and further elaborated on it in his book "Competing on Analytics," which was named by Harvard Business Review as one of the twelve most important management ideas of the past decade. His insights have significantly influenced the fields of process innovation, knowledge management, and the strategic use of analytics and big data in business practices.

Continuing to advance the field, Davenport has explored various dimensions of analytics and artificial intelligence in his subsequent works. His books "Only Humans Need Apply: Winners and Losers in the Age of Smart Machines," co-authored with Julia Kirby, and "The AI Advantage: How to Put the Artificial Intelligence Revolution to Work" provide practical guidance on integrating AI technologies in business settings. His latest book, "Big Data at Work," offers perspectives on the implications of big data for organizations. Davenport's work not only deepens the understanding of how analytics can improve decision-making but also advocates for blending analytical tools with human intuition to enhance organizational performance and competitive advantage.
