Tom Jones

Tom Jones, PhD, is a distinguished scientist, speaker, author, pilot, and veteran NASA astronaut, born in Baltimore, Maryland. He is renowned for his significant contributions to human space exploration, particularly during his tenure at NASA.

In 2001, Dr. Jones led three spacewalks to install the centerpiece of the International Space Station, the American Destiny laboratory. He has spent a total of fifty-three days working and living in space. His excellence in the field has been recognized with numerous awards, including the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, four NASA Space Flight Medals, and the NASA Exceptional Public Service award. His efforts in space exploration were further acknowledged when he was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame on February 14, 2018.

Dr. Jones is also a prolific author, having written seven books on space, aviation, and history. His notable works include "Sky Walking: An Astronaut’s Memoir" and the upcoming "Space Shuttle Stories," set to be released in October 2023 by Smithsonian Books. Dr. Jones continues to inspire and lead discussions in the scientific community, contributing to our understanding of the largest known asteroids in the main asteroid belt and other significant celestial phenomena.
