Tom Marshburn

Dr.Thomas Marshburn is an American physician and former NASA astronaut. His extensive knowledge and experience have earned him numerous awards, such as the NASA Superior Achievement Award, the Space and Life Sciences Division Special Space Flight Achievement Award, and the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center Superior Achievement Award. Dr. Marshburn's professional journey began in the medical field, where he trained in emergency medicine and worked in emergency rooms in Texas and Massachusetts.

Dr. Marshburn's career took an exciting turn in November 1994 when he joined NASA and served as a flight surgeon at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. His tenure at NASA is marked by three spaceflights to the International Space Station, including STS-127, Expedition 34/35, and SpaceX Crew-3. In addition to his role as a flight surgeon, Dr. Marshburn co-chaired Medical Operations for the Shuttle-Mir Program and served as a lead Flight Surgeon for various missions. His adventurous spirit also led him to serve as an aquanaut during the NEEMO 14 mission aboard the Aquarius underwater laboratory.

Dr. Marshburn has numerous appearances on TV shows and documentaries such as "NASA's Unexplained Files" and "The Colbert Report." He also served as a consultant on Disney Pixar's "Lightyear." He works as a physician and serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate at NASA. Dr. Marshburn has made significant contributions to space exploration through his scientific research and experiments during space missions, enhancing our understanding of the effects of microgravity on the human body.

Dr. Marshburn holds an impressive educational background with a B.S. degree in Physics from Davidson College, an M.S. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Virginia, an M.D. from Wake Forest University, and an M.M.S. degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
