Tom Price

Congressman Tom Price was first elected to represent Georgia’s 6th district in November 2004. Prior to his tenure in Washington, Price served four terms in the Georgia State Senate – two as Minority Whip. In 2002, he was a key figure in the Republican takeover of the State Senate, with Price ascending to the role of the first Republican Senate Majority Leader in the history of Georgia.

In Congress, Rep. Price was known for his leadership, particularly in health care policy, serving on the House Committee on Ways and Means. During the 114th Congress, he was appointed Chair of the House Budget Committee. He also served as Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee and Chairman of the Republican Study Committee. Price was committed to advancing positive solutions under principled leadership and was a staunch advocate for limited government and fiscal responsibility.

For nearly twenty years, Rep. Price worked in private practice as an orthopedic surgeon before returning to Emory University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and Medical Director of the Orthopedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he taught resident doctors. He received his Bachelor and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Emory University.

On November 29, 2016, it was announced that Price would be nominated for Secretary of Health and Human Services in the administration of President-elect Donald Trump, a position he held as the 23rd Secretary. In this role, he focused on creating a patient-centered health care system emphasizing affordability, accessibility, quality, choices, innovation, and responsiveness. He also addressed major health crises such as the opioid epidemic and the impact of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence on healthcare.

Congressman Price and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Roswell, GA. They have one son. As a leading expert on U.S. healthcare policy, Price continues to provide insights into the relationship between federal and state governments in healthcare, the impact of public policy on medical practice, and international healthcare issues.
