Tomas Philipson

Dr. Tomas J. Philipson holds the Daniel Levin Chair of Public Policy at The University of Chicago. He served at The White House as a Member, the Vice Chairman, and Acting Chairman of The President's Council of Economic Advisers from 2017 to 2020. Philipson was a co-founder of Precision Health Economics LLC, a healthcare consulting firm that operated in various locations globally before its sale in 2015. He has earned a B.A. in mathematics from Uppsala University and both an MA and PhD in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Philipson is an Angel investor in healthcare companies and serves on several boards in this sector. His contributions to economic and health policy have been recognized with multiple awards, including twice receiving the Arrow Award from The International Health Economics Association—the highest award in his field. Other accolades include the Garfield Award for Economic Research, the Premio Haralambos Simeonidis from the Brazilian Economic Association, and the Milken Institute's Distinguished Economic Research Award. He provided advisory roles for Senator McCain's 2008 presidential campaign and was a senior economic advisor to the FDA and CMS.
