Tony Juniper

Tony Juniper is an independent sustainability and environment adviser, including a Special Advisor in the Prince’s Charities International Sustainability Unit, Fellow with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and President of the Society for the Environment. He is a founding member of the Robertsbridge Group that advises international companies on sustainability issues.

Juniper has authored several influential books, including "Parrots of the World", "Spix’s Macaw", and "How Many Light Bulbs Does It Take To Change A Planet?". He also co-authored "Harmony" with HRH The Prince of Wales and Ian Skelly. His book "What has Nature ever done for us?" was a multi-award-winning bestseller, published in January 2013, and was nominated for Polemic of the Year at the Political Book Awards 2014. Over his career, spanning more than three decades, Juniper has aimed for impactful change towards a more sustainable society at various levels—from local community initiatives on ecology and conservation to international campaigns addressing climate change and rainforest preservation.

Juniper's career began as an ornithologist with Birdlife International. He joined Friends of the Earth in the early 1990s, serving as the executive director from 2003 to 2008 and as Vice Chair of Friends of the Earth International from 2000 to 2008. He was the first recipient of the Charles and Miriam Rothschild medal in 2009 and received honorary Doctor of Science degrees from the Universities of Bristol and Plymouth in 2013. Speaking frequently on the economic value of nature, Juniper illustrates how robust environmental policies benefit businesses both in the immediate and long-term, advocating for sustainable practices that enhance economic growth and environmental health.
