Tope Awotona is the founder and CEO of Calendly, a software company valued at $3 billion that offers automated solutions for business communications, team scheduling, and follow-ups. Initially launched in 2013 to simplify scheduling without the need for back-and-forth emails, Calendly now boasts more than 10 million users under Awotona's strategic direction, making him one of the most successful immigrant entrepreneurs in America.
Prior to creating Calendly, Awotona held various corporate jobs, including a stint at IBM, before transitioning to an accountant executive role at a Kansas City-based startup company, Perceptive Software. His career in enterprise software sales and his frustration with scheduling meetings as a salesman eventually led him to invest his life savings into creating Calendly.
A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Awotona identifies with the Yoruba ethnicity. He moved to the United States in 1996, carrying the pain of losing his father in a carjacking incident, an event that inspired him to continue his father's legacy of entrepreneurship. Awotona holds a degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia, having initially majored in Computer Science before switching his focus to Business and Management.
