Trey Sermon began his professional football career as a running back for the San Francisco 49ers, chosen in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. His career in college football took off at Oklahoma and Ohio State, where he transferred as a graduate student. Notably, during the 2020 Big Ten Championship Game, he secured a record with 331 rushing yards, marking the highest in a single game by an Ohio State player and setting a new bar in a Football Bowl Subdivision championship game. His performance in college earned him a Second-team All-Big Ten award in 2020.
After a brief stint on the injured reserve in December 2021, Sermon was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles in September 2022. However, his time with the Eagles was short-lived and he was released less than a year later. On September 19, 2023, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad and was swiftly promoted to the active roster.
