Troy Landry is a reality television personality starring in "Swamp People" on the History Channel. He is an alligator hunter and crawfish trapper. He and his family have become widely known for their reality series and personal appearances.
Landry is the quintessential Cajun swamp man. From November to August, he makes his living in the crawfish industry, buying from local fishermen and distributing throughout Louisiana. But when September rolls around, it's all alligators all the time. Troy and his son, Jacob, spend their days hunting wild gators and running a huge warehouse where local trappers can store their catches. At night, they fry up fresh alligator meat on Troy's houseboat or take their boat on a bayou pub crawl, stopping at all their favorite watering holes. Thanks in part to his frequent parties, Troy is one of the most prominent residents of Pierre Part, his hometown, and his son seems to be following in his footsteps.
Gator hunting is in Landry’s blood. Landry grew up in a family of crocodile hunters, shrimpers, trappers, moss peddlers, and lumberjacks and is the fifth generation to own an alligator hunting business. Speaking with the New York Post in 2012, Landry said, “gator hunting is something I grew up. People ask me, “How you got into that?” I didn’t get into it. I was raised in it.” Landry explained that as he was growing up, his family would hunted gators for their meat. Now, they “hunt now for a different reason,” Landry sharing that “we can sell the hides more than the meat.”
